So, you are still interested in adopting a Labrador?
Stage 1:
You need to complete an Adoption Form. This form will tell us about you, your family and your home along with your preferences regarding the type and age of dog you are looking for. Please be honest when completing the form and ensure all questions are answered fully.
To complete an Online Adoption Application [Click Here]
Once you have filled in an application form, then you will receive an "Auto Reply" our website Your form will then be received by us at the rescue for processing.
Stage 2:
You will then receive an email from us asking you to call us between the hours of 11am to 7 pm so we can go through your form with you,and answer any questions you may have about adopting please leave a message if it’s the answer phone and use one contact volunteer only .please leave a landline number if possible.
Please do not assume that by filling in an application form that you are on our waiting list,we like to speak to you first, as this helps us to find the best dog to suit your experience as some dogs come in that will settle easily, others can be very hard work and need a lot of training and will need an experienced owner. Also a homecheck or a vet reference will need to be done prior to you adopting, so if you dont wish any of these to be done , please dont apply to this rescue, as this is part of our criteria of adopting.
Please Note:
Many of the dogs we rehome are from families where they are being left for long periods due to work commitments.
WE DO NOT REHOME TO families where both adults are WORKING FULL TIME. We do not expect the dog to be left alone for longer than 4 hours per day maximum. We do not consider a small lunch time visit, neighbours popping in, or a dog walker sufficient, as this is why so many of our dogs come into rescue, the Labrador is a people dog and loves company.
We are all volunteers with jobs, families, and dogs of our own to look after,so please be patient with us, we are only a small organisation and hold 6 kennels so only accommodate this many dogs at any one time. The rescue kennels are not a Visitor Centre this is a family home as well so please make sure you have an appointment before calling to the house.
Stage 4:
Once your homecheck has been completed you will be placed on our waiting list. From this point on, you should visit our website on a daily basis - during busy periods, the rescue quite often receives new dogs every day. It is worth noting that not all dogs are shown on the Website. It may be that we have someone on our waiting list who would be ideal for a dog and they will be contacted directly. If you do see a dog on the site that you would like to consider adopting contact us immediately, either by phone (landlines only please due to cost of return call) or email. You will be given all history of the dog that has been made available to us and can discuss any concerns and ask as many questions as you need.
Stage 5:
Nearly there now! You will be invited to meet your chosen dog when you will have some time to see how you react to each other. If you already have another pet or children, we would like to see how everyone interacts together before the final comittement is made and you take home the new member of your family.
After the Adoption:
Be prepared for a period of settling in. The new member of your family will need time to adjust in just the same way that you do. This can range from a few days to a few weeks and will vary from dog to dog. If you are having problems please do not assume things will not settle down as this is rarely the case.
Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss any issues you have. You can also use our forums to ask existing members for advice, ask questions, share your frustrations or simply have a laugh at some of the funny things your new family member will do!
Remember - we have all been where you are now - we are all here to help and support you and your pet through this period of adjustment and we will all have many stories and experiences to share with you. It is also worth mentioning here that providing a new forever home to a Labrador who has fallen on hard times is probably one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
If you need any further assistance if adopting please call one of the team and we will help if we can.
