Hello Lauren,

I think what you are thinking of, where the lower lid droops away from the eye, is Ectropion. This is actually quite common. It can be caused by either small, or deep set eyes coupled with loose skin. Bloodhounds are particularly bad for this. Flatcoated Retrievers often pass through an Ectropic stage during the development of the head shape when pups. (I’ve seen quite a few.) Again it is something I’ve seen in Labradors and in fact my Amy was borderline at one stage in the development of her head shape. The risk of course is for dust and grit to collect in the “Pocket” formed by the lower lid and abraid the lens. If needed, the op to correct this is quite simple, just nick the lower lid and a stitch to rejoin it, tightening it up. Obviously no dog needing this operation should be bred from and the KC would refuse it “Permission to Show”.

Cherry Eye is a rather more serious condition and can affect any breed, although you don’t often see it. It is rather more often seen in the flat faced breeds such as Bulldogs, but very unusual in Labradors. But as I said, I’ve only ever seen one case before in all my years in dogs, and I’ve been involved in canine eye testing for going on 25 years.

Regards, John

When I worked at the vets I saw a young Shi Tzu with cherry eye and she was successfully operated on so I have all my fingers crossed and the dogs paws crossed for Jet and hope all will turn out well.
Good Luck on Thursday

Oh this is such a sad situation, awful that this little girl was dumped. We have sent our donation for the pound for a hound appeal and I am so pleased that this girl has a potentiol forever home waiting for her, as I was worrying about the little thing. I just want to give her a big cuddle.

I think some wires have been crossed with regards to Jet's specialist appointment.

My vet reffered her and I was awaiting the call on either Tuesday or Wednesday to be given an appointment.

Jet's appointment is next wednesday at 12noon this was the earliest available beleive me I did try and get her in sooner but to no avail.

She is doing fine, she seems happy in herself and loves nothing better than chasing Bailey around the local park.

At the moment you need to have a little patience with her when she is off lead, she is okay but she does like to have a good sniff as you are walking along, so she sometimes trails behind but as long as you reassure her that you are still around and she can hear your voice she will catch up to you. She also pulls a bit on the lead when out walking but same again I think as she has her head quite low to the ground to sniff out where she is going it makes the pulling a little bit worse. Her left eye has much better sight in it than her right so she does walk on left. She is no trouble whatsoever she is an absolute delight.

Kathy (chocdrop) who found her last saturday is coming down on saturday to visit her and see how she is doing, which I'm looking forward to I like putting faces to names and I'm sure Jet would love to be reunited with her saviour.

Will keep you updated especially when we have seen the specialist.

Doing a collection at work and in the hospital, will send when donations are in

Poor Jet she looks so much like both Bess1 and Bess2. Sadly both over the rainbow bridge now but I shed a tear or two when I saw Jets picture looking so like both of them

It's going to seem a long wait for you both. Keeping everything crossed. Donation winging it's way to MKF.

Good luck Little Girl Lost - now found, and in the best possible place. :love5:
