For those of you who have been involved in Project Management this will probably strike some chords
"Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. However, in business we often try other strategies with dead horses, including the following:
 Buying a stronger whip
 Changing riders
Saying things like 'This is the way we've always ridden this horse'
Appointing a committee to study the horse
Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses
Increasing the standards to ride dead horses
Appointing a team to ride the dead horse
Creating a training session to increase our riding ability
Comparing the state of dead horses in today's environment
Changing the requirements declaring 'This horse is not dead'
Hiring contractors to ride the dead horse
Harnessing several dead horses together for increased speed
Declaring that 'No horse is too dead to beat'
Paying for a study to see if consultants can ride it cheaper
Providing additional funding to upgrade the dead horses performance
Installing a product to make dead horses run faster
Declaring that the horse is 'Better, faster and cheaper' dead
Forming a quality circle to find uses for dead horses
Revisiting the performance requirements for dead horses
Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position"

This is reality rather than a joke Kim! I've seen it many times, with each new leader devising yet another strategy to revive said dead horse The difficult bit is the permanent requirement to be positive and upbeat with your own team in light of the horses health

My sentiments exactly Joanna. I was given this piece of 'wisdom' a couple of years ago and it's only because I am clearing out old documents in readiness for my departure from said Business Politics that I found it. It resonated so loudly that I felt I had to share it!! I too will much prefer life after business
