Peppa

Post by LabRes1 »

Peppa is a beautiful puppy who, at 9 weeks old was to be put to sleep.

She is now with Labrador Rescue and her foster mum Ky who will be taking care of her.

Peppa has a problem - whilst she knows she needs a wee and will go outside for one, when she relaxes or goes to sleep she leaks urine.
This is a problem that may solve itself with time - it is possible that when Peppa has her first season and her body matures that the problem will stop naturally. It is likely however that she may need an operation to tighten up the muscles that will stop this leakage. Rather than put her through an operation unnecessarily it is our intention to keep her until she has a season or her condition improves. If necessary we will then refer her to the specialist hospital that dealt with Sophie.

I will add a summary of Sophies story here purely to show why we are taking this action and not letting a 9 week old pup be put to sleep as some readers may be new to the site and the work we do.

Sophie was a 12 week old golden retriever pup who was also to meet the fate of the vets needle because she was incontinent. Sophie leaked all the time and the smell of stale urine was very bad. Sophie was taken to rutland house for investigation and it was found that her uretha was not connected to her bladder.

Sophie was a very subdued little girl who must have felt ill all the time with a tummy full of stale wee.

Sophie had an operation to sort out her problem and she went to her new home. There were several weeks of antibiotics and wet floors but eventually the infections she developed after major surgery disappeared and little sophie developed into the mischievous puppy she had never been. Sophie couldnt come to fun day as she had started her season, and following her season she had 3 weeks of infections and leaks but she is now back to normal and will be speyed in 3-4 months time.

Sophie is a beautiful girl who thrives on love and attention - her latest trick is jumping onto the coffee table and then dads desk to get a love from him! The following photo was taken after I had returned home from a long shift, grabbed an apple and walked over to my desk - Sophie jumped on the coffee table and then the desk and was waiting for a kiss -

The point of mentioning sophie here is not to take anything away from Peppas story but to show what can be achieved - sophie now has potentially 15 years with a good quality of life where she will be loved and cherished - Peppa is already loved and cherished by her foster mum but with some time, care and vet bills she will have a long and lovely life to look forward to.

Peppa is already developing her character and every day turns into an even more beautiful girl - we had to give her a chance, we had to give her the best care she could have and we had to give her a future - with the rescue, Ky and our supporters she has just that.

Sophie really is the prettiest girl. And very lucky too! Fingers crossed little Peppa won't need the operation.
