Sunday update Little Norrie

Post by Glenys »

It is time for another update ( lest we forget)
Whilst we are all getting on with life in general Ky is still battling to keep Norrie healthy and on the right track thank you all so much too for sending donations as we did not launch an appeal we are edging towards a thousand now in special foods, soft bedding and Vet bill although Caerwys Vets are so wonderful keeping costs down as much as they can and their most excellent care of all the dogs they have looked after for us you will see Ky is slightly concerned re Norries rear action.

So here is the update please share his story if you can we have a long way to go yet for this lovely boy and just look at his beautiful face and think we all helped in some way to achieve his salvation .

From Ky

time at last to bring you up to date on Norrie Boy and what he has been up to these last few days. I am sorry to be a bit late with this but having Suzy puppy here has been time consuming to say the least.

After the euphoria of the weigh in you have to tell yourself the realities, Norrie had a body score of 0 to 1 when he came in he now has a body score of 1.5 .
When you see it like this you realise how close he was to not being here you also realise that he is heading the right way but still has a way to go to reach the ideal body score of 4 to 5 which is where a normal healthy dog should be. Still we keep plodding on and cooking and feeding. It would help if Norrie was a greedy dog or a dog interested in food but in reality he is not, I still think he eats to please me but have found that his favourite is braised lamb minced up and stirred in amongst his biscuits, he actually seems to enjoy that.
Rather than keep cooking salmon ( as a non fish eater I am relieved for the lack of smell ) he is having salmon oil on his white fish and of course still has sardines usually mashed up into goats milk as a mid afternoon snack, looks revolting but always goes down well.

I think I mentioned having Suzy here really put him off his stride the first couple of days, he seems to be a dog that once used to something likes everything to remain the same, hard to explain really.

Thursday--boy what a morning thursday was. You remember I told you the gate had become a sort of labrador flap? well Suzy puppy discovered she could operate this and was all over the house having great fun, then Grayse ran off with one of my boots-- as usual, I started to leave the kitchen to get dressed and Norrie grabbed the back of my dressing gown and there was an almighty ripping sound as a large tear appeared in the back still with Nortie Norrie hanging on and by this time shaking it and grumbling at it. I got dressed and when I came back down stairs Norrie grabbed my trouser leg and pulled and another garment let out a ripping sound and then just to finish off I went and retreived my boot from the lawn to discover that one of them had peed in it, I looked at my watch it was 8.45 am and although it would be 5 o'clock somewhere I decided a cup of tea was probably best.
I think pic 1 sums up the dogs here on thursday, it does not sum me up but very likely the dogs!!!!!

The weather has meant that we are once again on mud, the kitchen floor resembles the Somme and I never seem to have a mop out of my hand. Norrie cannot cope with the slippy mud in the field the same way he could not cope with the ice, he is very tentative in the way he walks with his back end and sits every few strides, I hate to say this but I think there is something more than poor muscle tone. Even Geoff noticed something yesterday and so I brought him indoors.
The vet is aware of my concerns and I will discuss them further with her on tuesday and go with whatever course of action she recommends, hopefully I am an over cautious mum but I really do feel there is something.

Rather than end on a downer some good news. Yesterday people came to see Suzy puppy and brought a little boy with them, Norrie thought that was wonderful and went all silly playing with the little boy who was laughing and giggling and we swear Norrie was laughing too as he had a huge goofy grin on his face. Norrie was doing his " grab the trousers and pull you" but I have to admit far more gentle than he grabs mine!! It was wonderful to watch two young boys having such fun.

The secong pic is Norrie in his favourite place, his basket, he pulls the covers about and re-arranges them till he has them just how he wants them and then he climbs in and surveys all that is going on around him before dropping to sleep. Another little point, although we have seen him sleep a plenty we have never seen him " dream" and "chase rabbits" like dogs do, once he is asleep he sleeps still and deep and never moves on a morning he is in exactly the same position he was in when youleft him.

Weigh in on tuesday so butterfly time again, people who only call in say once a week cannot believe the difference in him. A bit of a ramble this one , sorry, more news after the weigh in.

Ky. You really seem to have your hands full at the moment with Norty Norrie, Suzy Pup and Grayse the shoe pincher. Did the little boy go home with Suzy Pup?

Keeping my fingers crossed that it is not such a big problem with Norrie's rear end.

The picture of him in his basket really does show a marked a difference in him. :love2:

Have to agree the smell of fish cooking all the time would put me off. :1967:

Lovely update thank you, I think we all feel we know Norrie so well reading his updates and as for his antics with trousers and dressing gowns - sorry but makes me howl with laughter   His character is really coming out now.

Sending positive thoughts for Tuesday, I do hope his check up goes well and that he has put some weight on but I think we all realise it may have slowed down as he gets out and about more. I hope his back end is OK too, what a worry.

Gentle hugs for this beautiful boy with such a beautiful face :love5:

Another wonderfully worded update - including the moving introduction from Glenys :2063:

Well Ky, what a week! So pleased that Suzy has her special, forever home where I'm sure she will be very happy. Great news there :1951:

Is Penny still ensconced at your place? If she is, you really have had your work cut out!

What a beautiful picture of Norrie. He looks SO much better despite it being evident he still has a long way to go, bless him. It would be the cruelest blow to think he may have skeletal issues after all the poor soul has been through. Your vet seems to know her onions so everything crossed here that she can identify and deal with your concerns. Good luck on Tuesday

Norrie looks so well. It would be awful if anything serious comes to light now - and I am keeping EVERYTHING crossable crossed that whatever it is that is causing your concerns isn't serious.

I really hope that it's just Ky being over anxious - but if I were in this position, I would be exactly the same. I would be looking at everything that doesn't look right, and worrying. I so so hope that it's just a blip.

Ky - I don't know how you do it. You deserve a knighthood :love3: :love3: :love3: :love3:

I hope Ky's fears are unfounded.
Keep up the good work Norrie!

I think we will have to have an appeal to renew Ky's wardrobe!
