ADOPTION PENDING

.................................................................................................................
Thank you for your time the other day on the phone, as you know this is a difficult decision to make as a family. We have taken the time to discuss for a few days and believe it is the best option for both our daughter and Broc, in the long run, to find him a new home.

Broc is a 4 years old (DOB - 25/05/15) black labrador from working/gun dog background. He was purchased straight from a farm who only breed when they needed a new working dog themselves. He has an extremely soft nature and is a very loving dog who craves affection. On advice from the farmer, we have brought him up in a calm and settled home with lots of training early on.
He doesn't jump up at people, he is great with children (he was brought up with my nephew from a baby) and other dogs, he has never chewed any furniture or belongings, he isn't possessive over food, doesn't beg and has never stolen food even if left on the floor (he is a bit fussy with food and doesn't have the usual greedy labrador appetite) he does bark when someone is at the door but settles quickly, he isn't possessive over toys and they can be taken from him without fuss, he is used to being home alone whilst we are at work and have never had any 'accidents'.

Training: he has excellent recall, he has been trained to walk off lead from a puppy (he does pull on a lead but a halti works well with him), he sits before crossing the road, he doesn't try to get on furniture without permission even when we aren't there, he doesn't go upstairs without permission, he has been trained to go to the 'toilet' in one spot in the garden and not on the grass (to stop damage/mess), he can do all moves such as sit etc. he will wait on command until told to go again.

Medical wise, he used to chase a ball with a thrower up until about a year ago. He hurt his leg and he needed to be put on bed rest for three weeks and we gave him Yumove supplements. The vets thought it could be a partially torn cruciate ligament but it was decided not to do anything further as he was recovering well. Since then, we no longer throw balls as he can go 'too hard' and ends up hobbling for the rest of the day. If that happens we just give him the Yumove for a few days to help ease his joints.
He is fully up to date with his vaccinations and is due again mid-October, we have him registered at vets4pets and has lifetime vaccinations for free. He is also up to date with his flea and worming treatment.

Food-wise, he is on a mix of wet and dry food and it is all grain-free. We found the grain/wheat gave him an upset stomach. He can be quite fussy with his food and if given the same topper on his biscuits he ends up not wanting it after a while. It is quite common for Broc to not eat for a day or two when he is upset, if we have left him with family for a night or two or if he is unwell. He can be a bit of a sulker and is emotionally sensitive.

Overall he is an incredibly loyal, well-behaved and well-trained dog with a calm, gentle nature. He would make the perfect addition to a family with older children or an older couple who had the time to invest in him, especially if they had a bit of land. Although he wouldn't cope well with being kept outside, he can be quite sensitive and wants to be around people.
I know we probably can't be too prescriptive with what we would like from his future family but we would want him to go to a family who isn't working full time/every day or at least where someone is home with him most of the time. This is a large part of the reason we are looking at rehoming him (along with our daughter's possible allergy) and wouldn't want him to be in the same situation as he is now. Overall we are wanting him in a position where he is someone's whole world and top priority or they are able to give him the boundless love and attention that he deserves. We only want him to go to someone who will be able to give him more/better quality of life than we can already provide.

As we discussed, we would prefer to keep him here and in his own routine until a new home is found. We are happy for people to come and see him, walk with us or get in contact if they want further information.
