Hello, I have kept labs for over 35yrs.Apart from the first two all have been rescue or re-homed.
one yellow lab I adopted thro Glenys and she was beautiful (lab not Glenys!) Oops think im digging a hole for myself! Anyway `Spice` lived beyond 15yrs.
Enter Dooley another yellow he was intercepted by us before he was going to rescue centre (word of mouth via dog kennel) in fact we homed him prior to Spice moving on.
Sadly Dooley was put to sleep on the 27th December.
We do have a re-homed black lab but we are keen to find her a companion.
We live in a rural village in cumbria the beach is 5 minutes by car.Public footpath along the river Irt 2 min walk or upstream 5 mins.
My daughter many years ago wrote a poem that Glenys put in the news letter!!

Welcome back.

Most of us (if not all of us) on here know how it feels to lose a furbaby. Glad you feel ready to take another into your hearts. :bighug:

Wishing you and yours:-

That is lovely thank you.....Happy New Year for tomorrow!
So the remaining black lab Ruby lou (the naughtiest dog in the world) is 12+ and going well. But with that in mind thinking the sensible option would be to find a lab not too young think 2 to 4 yrs old would be ideal but all considered.
The next time would like a puppy because Im taking early retirement in 2019..........yippee!!

I'm sorry that you have said goodbye to your boy Dooley, a sad time for you, but it sounds like he had a great life and has left you with very special memories.
Hope you are able to find a companion for Ruby in the new year,

Well then!! Things took a turn for the better.................We adopted Bear a very handsome boy.Still very much a lively puppy enjoys playing with anything that squeaks.
First 24hrs saw him settle well and that has continued.
Pulls very hard but is improving.Yesterday he walked on lead at heel without pulling for quite a while.
Bear has breathed new life into Ruby and I am pleased to say that she is the top dog and puts bear in his place when necessary with a low growl or woof! He doesnt argue!

Kind regards everyone

Sorry to hear that you lost your beloved Dooley just after Christmas it's heart breaking when they go no matter how long we've had them.

Bear sounds as if he will help to make you smile again, I had a look at him and he's a stunning boy. Pleased to read that Ruby Lou is taking no nonsense from this youngster, let's hope she doesn't train him to be the naughtiest boy in the family - that will be fun

Please keep us posted on how Bear gets on, it's so nice to hear how the dogs settle into their new homes and the antics they get up to. Wishing you and Bear a very long and happy life together.

Really pleased that you've found a lovely lad to help heal hearts, yours and Ruby's. I'm sure Dooley would approve of you offering a loving home to Bear....
Sounds like Ruby is a smart lady, enjoying a new lease of life whilst she's quickly let Bear know his place :1968:

Quick update : Bear has settled in very well into our family and is popular with other dogs and their owners.
Very much the opportunist when it comes to food!! Nothing is safe. The stair gate into the kitchen is a permanent fixture. How we are going to stop him nicking apples from the patio trees is a challenge!
Ruby is very well slowing down a little now 13 yrs young plus. But often instigates play nibbling his ears she is still a scamp of a lady!

Kind regards and best wishes to you all.

Pleased to read that Bear has settled in so well, he sounds as if his paws are firmly under (or even on) the table  You will have to watch him in Autumn when the ripe apples fall off the trees, I used to look after my sister’s 2 labs for 6 weeks at that time of year and they would eat any over ripe or rotting windfalls they could find. They then became ill so every year before they came I had to search the area round our trees with a tooth comb to get any fallers before they came. Good luck. :1967:

Awww, it's good to read that Bear has settled in so nicely and, in typical lab style, sorted his priorities and worked out where the food is  ...................and kindly allowed his ears to be nibbled
Lovely that Ruby is enjoying the companionship too,
happy days!
