Charlie Now at the rainbow Bridge

Post by Glenys »

In January 2003 you all helped use find a lost soul called Charlie who was on his way up to your centre from a rescue centre in Warrington.
Charlie decided that we would be perfect for him and he would be able to train us quite easily to his unique little ways.
For the last 6 years our lives have been enriched beyond compare by having Charlie around and in his unique way, has made so many friends, including people who have always been wary of dogs, dispelling their fear and turning it into wholesome love and affection.
Charlie has spent many happy times on our local park introducing himself to everyone to the extent that when he was not able to be there, people wanted to know where he was and why.
Three weeks ago he had a stoke, but as stubborn as ever was not giving up yet, and pulled through with flying colours. A little more wobbly on his legs, he was determined to be back on the park with his adoring fans and was very happy to be home in his usual surroundings.
Unfortunately, Charlie got pneumonia two days ago and due to still being fragile from the stroke became very ill.
Charlie passed away peacefully, with us next to him, this morning at 9:50am. He held on till we got to the vets then quietly slipped away on his last big adventure chasing biscuits.

" Charlie you will be so missed by so many people and life will not be the same without you. You were a very unique dog, full of spirit, determination, excellent time keeping and bossing us around. The house is very empty without you, but we know you are not in any pain any more.
God bless you fur-face."

Thank you to you all for putting us in contact with Charlie in the first place, our gratitude to you is boundless and our lives have been so enriched by the presence of our dear sweet natured Charlie. You all do a fabulous job and long may it continue because it is so worthwhile to all the lost Labrador souls out there.
Many thanks and very best regards to you all
Phil & Paul

If it should be that I grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done, for this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years, you wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, be brave and let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree, it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you, who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years, don't let your heart hold any tears.

Bless him - it sounds as though he had a very happy life, and was very loved. It's so hard at a time like this, but I always try and think about how lucky dogs like Charlie are, to have found such a lovely home.
