Sam's 5th Gotcha

5 years ago today we collected Sam from the rescue after he passed Jessie's inspection & she allowed him to come home with us. Quite an honour as she had completely ignored the 2 dogs we have previously come to see on 2 separate visits. He allowed her to be the "queen" and complied with her bossiness and was really tolerant when she started with dementia and would suddenly decide she wanted his bed when he had been lay on it for a few hours.
Sam has been brilliant and been really good with the 5 foster dogs we have had. From day one of fostering Harry they showed a real bond and 2 years 9 month later still have that today. Where there is one of them you will always find the other.
He has been really luck in having good health apart from a few problems with his ears. He is 14 now possibly 15 and sadly 3 weeks ago became seriously ill. Whilst he has recovered now he has a serious heart condition for which he is on medication. We have no time scales. He may go the bridge tomorrow, next week, in a few months or possibly 12 months. In normal circumstances the heart will just stop. We can only hope that we have a lot of time left together & when the time comes this is what will happen and that we will be with him or that he leaves us in his sleep.
Life has changed in our house now as he has had to join Harry now on his short walks. He can't be over exerted, no jumping in and out of the boot, no lying in the sun - all of which he is unimpressed with. Trying to convince 2 oldies to stay calm when they both think that they are still 3 can be a challenge.
So its a very happy 5th Gotcha that we are wishing Sam today. He is wonderful & we truly hope that we are wishing him the same this time next year.
