So far so good!

Post by Mazbert »

Well I probably should not speak too soon, but the signs so far are better than we could have possibly hoped for.....we collected Bess yesterday for adoption, we already have the lovely Louis, who we adopted 18 months ago. As I write this they are happily 'chatting' through the garden fence to a passing dog! We took Louis to meet Bess and they got on straight away, as Louis is usually tennis ball obsessed (aren't most of the labs!) He does not usually massively interact, but with Bess he seemed more interactive than we have seen him. We bundled them into the back of the 4x4 and they had a little bark and then settled down for the journey home. Bess was initially a bit bewildered by a new house, and brother Louis They played and we stayed with them and watched them interact, then pretended to leave the house and watched them from the kitchen window outside.....(because we like to look nuts staring through our own house windows..ha). Fast forward a few hours and they were legging it around the living room and jumping about, and wagging tails! We put them both to bed after their night stroll, fully expecting noise and upset, there was a little bit of whimpering from Bess and then silence. Must say I got hardly any sleep as I was listening out with one ear! Got up this morning to a clean unchewed kitchen and two happy dogs! We have always been lucky with Louis as he had never been destructive, aside from a bit of garden sculpting, but we were expecting that Bess may well be a chewer, but nothing! Now this maybe a lucky first night but the signs are great!
Bess has obviously been well cared for, she is in brilliant condition and is house trained and really gentle and I think has learnt non mouthing. Louis is a big dog by comparison but is really gentle with her, and she is now confident enough to bat him on the head and then leg it wanting him to chase ha ha!
They seem really well matched and we will see in time. Big thanks to Glenys, Carol and the rest of the team for introducing us to our giddy, delightful dogs!

We will keep you all posted and get some photos, tried this morning but Bess was giddy and Louis was jumping about so no chance will try again on another of their walks!

Hello all and thanks for the lovely feedback. Well 'day three' (in the geordie big brother accent), in the labrador household! Bess has a voice now...a rather large one! She is not now the shy slightly unsure little one, but now gets her point across with a big booming bark...which is funny from such a small girl. We have also been teaching her that jumping up is just not acceptable, so instead she has adopted a half meerkat half labrador approach and when told 'off' at the kitchen unit she took her paws off the unit and balanced perfectly on her back two legs......I could not stop laughing as what can you say...she was not after all on the unit...ha ha, still working on it! Louis has been a perfectly tolerant older brother despite her nipping him a little too often in a play fight, he shoved her with a swing of his bottom and she got the message. They are working it out and doing really well. As I write this they are happily sleeping, Louis in his chair (of which Bess will not get in....he must have told her it was off limits) and Bess is lying under my leg with her head resting on my foot... They are either chasing after tennis balls on the park, running about like lunatics in the garden and then skidding on muddy paws in the kitchen or sleeping because they are shattered. It is really nice for me as I get to spend all day with them and oddly seem to get more work done now they are entertaining each other. We are loving having little Bess as does Louis. We had a quiet night last night and woke up to happy dogs and a clean kitchen, so still, so far so good!!
