Ivy! Please,please,please
Hi Everyone
It is with deep regret and tears in my eyes that on Saturday I have to bring Ivy back to rescue. We have had her for three months and slowly but surely she's come out of her shell and begun to turn into a loving and affectionate dog. Unfortunately the previous owners did not disclose to Glenys her aggression towards other dogs! Not all but some. She has lived with us for 3 months with our other rescue dog Jake. She's never had any issues with Jake until tonight and ironically today was the day I'd emailed a dog behaviourist to review Ivy's aggressive behaviour. Ivy is a lovely dog and we will make full disclosures of her behaviour with us to Glenys when we take her back on Saturday. She absolutely must be the only dog and she needs to see someone straight away about her problems. I do not want her to spend anymore time than necessary in the kennels and am willing to pay for any fees for a behaviourist to help her move forward. She is not out and out aggressive but obviously there are certain triggers. Please someone out there have faith and give beautiful Ivy a new home asap.
Regards
Keith

Keith, I am really sorry to read you are having to re-home Ivy, you have obviously come to love her. I hope she finds a single dog home before too long, for her and so you feel easier. Sounds a little similar to my Rowley's problems with other family dogs and it is very distressing and difficult.

Yes it's been difficult. She really is a lovely and loving dog but with baggage. I really believe with the right help her problem can be overcome but she absolutely must be the only dog in the house.
Thank you for your kind words

Oh dear, Keith. I'm sure Ivy's issues can be resolved in the right home. Years ago we had a dog that didn't like other dogs, and we could never have had another dog live with her. We had her from a pup as well, so she didn't come with a history.
It's sad when this happens, but don't beat yourself up as you have most certainly persevered and you clearly care very much about Ivy. I'm sure Glenys and team will support you with this.

Hi
This pressing all our emotional buttons. We are luck that we can keep the separated in the house. This morning we took them on separate walks.
Just now I've taken them both out together with Ivy muzzled in the back of the car and had no issues. Let the out on the moors and they did their usual routine. That's until Ivy went wondering off on the scent of something, then Jake must have decided he missed her this morning and ran at her as fast as he could then started spinning round and barking at her. Chased her, growled at her jumped at her and was generally being a nuisance wanting her to play. No adverse reaction from Ivy whatsoever. Came back in the car and now they are both sat in the kitchen. We are confused and very torn at the moment.

Oh Keith I really do not know what to say I was really upset when I saw your first post this morning, for you your family and lovely Jake and Ivy.
I have not had any experience of this kind of situation and we have had many rescue dogs, 4 at the moment, and never less than 2.
It is not really for me to say but maybe you should give it a little longer, and possibly a little advice from a dog behaviourist.
We have found over the years that it can take up to a year for your new dog to feel completely at home in he or she's new surroundings, and we do not know what has happened before in their life.
Good luck please keep us up to date and by the way your two are really stunning.

Oh Keith, we really feel for you and can tell from your postings how much you love Ivy and fully understand the emotions you and your family are going through. Maybe, it might be worth giving it a little longer and see if a behaviourist can assess Ivy to see if her problems can be overcome. It's easy for me to say this but at the end of the day you and your family are having to deal with this plus you have to think about the effects it can have on Jake.
I'm sure you wil make the right decision for what is best for everyone.
Thinking of you all as we really and truely can tell this situation is pulling at your heartstrings
The pictures of Ivy and Jake are stunning.

Hi Everyone
First of all thank you for all the kind words and advice. It's been a bit of stressful day but not as bad as the one Glenys has had to endure
We are lucky in that we can keep both dogs separated when we are not around (bedtime) so no fallouts! Long story short they have both been ok with each other today and the health and safety procedure is that Ivy is muzzled now when in the car with Jake.
Spoke to the behaviourist today and a long chat with Glenys and also "she who must be obeyed" (for the older viewers) and we are going to try and persist with Ivy. We are going to see the dog whisperer on Tuesday for an assement and take it from there.
Obviously the welfare of both dogs is paramount and last night may have been a bit of a knee reaction(she hasn't actually bitten anything whilst in our care).
They are both sat on their settee at the moment with butter wouldn't melt faces
Will try and keep you posted and hopefully, with patience, we will have a happy ending.
Best Regards
Keith & Helen

Awful situation for you as clearly Ivy has got under your skin. I do hope you can work things out, as Liz has said it can take time but you do have to consider what is best too and only you will know that. The photos are just gorgeous you have two lovely dogs and clearly Ivy is thriving in your care. The other positive is you have male/female dogs so there is a good chance this can be worked through.
Keep us posted on how things go and fingers crossed everything works out.

I'm so pleased you are persisting with Ivy Keith. As others have said, it can take time and the rewards are wonderful.
I'm also pleased for you and her indoors who must be obeyed. It doesn't take long for these dogs to work their way into our hearts does it.
I wish you all the luck in the world and hope things turn out as well as we all wish for. Hugs for Jake for being a good boy.
