George
I can't believe I've got to post the following:
We have had devastating news about my beautiful gorgeous George. I had to rush him to the vet early yesterday morning as an emergency as he wasn't well. I went to the orthopaedic vets but saw a different wonderful vet there. He arranged blood test etc immediately and we had to stay one and a half hours for the results, in that time George rallied and was his handsome gorgeous self, playing to the crowd who were all admiring him. In fact the vet nurse came and took a photo of him as she thought he was so handsome and he was put on Facebook as their "Patient of the Day". I even took him out for a half hour walk in the nearby park in the sunshine. The bloods showed he's anaemic and has a low platelet count. We were thinking iron tablets or some other medication.
We were called back In the afternoon for X-rays and ultrasound scans. The result of all this is that George has a tumour called a hemangiosarcoma as big as a tennis ball in his spleen. This is a very fast growing, very aggressive cancer which he would only have had for a few weeks but which has already ruptured into the spleen causing bleeding into his abdomen and has spread to his lymph nodes and other areas.
Basically he doesn't have long to live. He is now on painkillers and resting after the ordeal of being poked and prodded yesterday.
I feel like I'm in a nightmare and will wake up soon, how can this handsome dog who looks so well, without one grey hair be so ill? I just can't imagine life without him, he really is my dog in a million, there will never be another one like him. He's brought us so much happiness right from the first day we brought him home and continues to do so. Please send him positive and healing thoughts - a miracle is what's needed I'm afraid.

Re: George
Oh Joan,
We are so so very sorry to read this news and know what you are going through as this is how we lost our beloved boy Milo in May. One minute he was fine full of life and then things not right which instinct tells you if you know your fur baby things aren't right. Liverpool Vet Hospital which our vets referred us the following day confirmed Milo had the same aggressive tumour as George and said he would have only had it a couple of weeks and would have spread to other parts of his body.
We fully understand how you feel as I felt I'd let Milo down not being able to do anything for him sooner and beat myself up about that as thought I had Missed something but Liverpool and our vet Ruth who also lost her dog with the same thing assured me there are no signs.
Really know the pain you are feeling and will continue to send your Goregeous Boy more positive and healing thoughts by the bucket full.
Thinking of you both. please Feel free to PM me if there's anything I may be able to help you with.
Love

Oh no ... dear Joan how so very sad ... you and George were the first members of the Forum to welcome me when I joined ... and a very handsome boy with a million per cent personality. My girls and I hold paws here for you and praying to the guardian angel for poorly dogs to breathe on dear George and ease his pain and if he goes to the Bridge to make his journey gentle and peaceful.
I lost my beautiful Maya a fabulous Springador to exactly the same tumour ... and the brave girl didn't let on the she was in pain till it was too late ... so I do understand what your news was like xx
Sending you all much love
