I'm so sorry Joan. We were going through similar this time last year and we took it one day at a time. Some days were good but others were awful. When the bad days were more than the good we knew in our hearts what we had to do. Thinking of you all but especially gorgeous George.

Re: George
Thank you for all your positive and healing thoughts, please continue to send them by the truck load we want to try to keep him happy and pain free for as long as possible.
From Wed teatime to Friday night he hardly moved off his bed, I was giving him Tramadol twice a day, my daughter came back from London late Friday night and then Sat morning George got up trotted into the lounge to have a cuddle with Sarah. Then he heard me mixing his breakfast and he trotted out to find me and was wagging his tail like normal. We had such a good day Saturday he was well enough to come out in the sunshine for a walk and we spoilt him rotten loads of different treats, extra meat with his meals and ham (his favourite). I decided not to give him Tramadol as I know George and he wasn't in pain and he seems better for it.
Today he's been up and ate breakfast but doesn't seem quite as well as yesterday but I think that's what we expect some days ok some not. The vet we are now seeing should be up for the best vet of the year he is so compassionate and caring.
This is so hard and I am determined to be strong for George, the bond we have with this special dog is unbelievable. As the vet nurse said " George seems to have an aura around him that sucks you in and he seems to understand every word you say to him". When you are out anywhere with George strangers constantly come up and want to talk to him and stroke him, we've never known anything like it in almost 35 years of owning labs. Our non doggy friends who came away with us at the end of Sept were absolutely astounded at the attention he gets wherever we go, from different people at the hotel interrupting our breakfast each morning, to people in a posh pub all gathering round to talk to him and then again when they were all leaving. Even in Ross on Wye as we walked round the town people stopped us and asked about him and could they give him a treat, one very well to do man said he'd been watching us earlier and he couldn't leave without being introduced to George, when I said he loves people the man turned round and said "And we love you too George". It's been the same since we first brought him home and I'm so sorry for George that his unique personality that shines out of him is going to be cut short.

Re: George
It sounds as though George is comfortable Joan. He's a stunning looking boy, and I'm not surprised he's attracted a lot of attention. We tried to keep things as 'normal ' as we could with our Mollie when we knew she didn't have long left, and tried not to show our upset in front of her, as I think they can pick up on your feelings. It's incredibly difficult though, and I truly feel for you.
Gentle hugs to you and Gorgeous George

Re: George
It's been ages since I've posted and been on here. Joan, I'm heartbroken to read this, just devastated for you. I cannot believe your lovely boy has been diagnosed with this. Your boy is an absolute darling, one of my favourite pics is of him and Barney together at a fun day years ago. George is such a gentle and handsome boy. And it is so plain just what a bond you have together, so special. I hope you have as long as possible together with his pain minimised. You are in my thoughts. Please hug George from me and sending you love. Emma xxx
