Re: xena under investigation- some good, some rather sad news.
Many thanks for your kind messages. The news is that her general health is fine and the spinal arthritis is minimal. However apparently her hips are the worst the vet has ever seen.
apparently they don't actually hold together at all and she must be in a lot of pain. The damage to her knees is not yet arthritis but they are getting deformed because she would tshe is compensating for hips.
The only real cure is new hips at about £2k each, dependng on whether the surgeons think she has enough bone and whether she would take it. Sadly I don't have £4k and I doubt that the insurance would pay since there is a note on the old records in 05 of hip dyspaia having been diagnosed earlier and from the X ray its clearly long standing.I asked for the X - rays to be sent for the surgeon's opinion anyway, in case I can find a way of raising the money.
Meanwhile, she's going for a course of injections for pain relief and increase in cushioning , starting Monday, she's got all her supplements, and she's booked in for hydrotherapy on Friday. She was whimpering a bit at first but is now snoring contentedly on her favourite sofa, wearing a sweet little bandana the vets put on her.

Oh my goodness, I am right in thinking you have only had Xena a short while? Is this the Xena that was on the November slideshow, she looked beautiful? Poor girl I think you have done the right thing getting them sent off for a surgical opinion.......in the meantime I hope that her treatment helps her pain. How old is Xena by the way?

Oh Julie can`t believe how bad Xena`s hips are. Hope the pain relief and hydrotherapy help to make her a little more comfy. Please keep us informed.
