There have been other dogs on here who have problems with their tales maybe someone could tell you how they coped.

Wonderful!
It could be the start of a whole new look for labradors, we could have kitchen roll centres as well as toilet rolls, different coloured tape, all sorts of looks........
Seriously I do hope Alfie's tail heals quickly.

Alfie looks gorgeous! We had tail problems with both Potter and Solo but they did heal up fine, quite quickly. You just have to watch out for the wagging - against radiators was one our worst!

Alfie is gorgeous! Love the makeshift splint, as long as it does the job who cares what it looks like!

Hi Bev,
Congratulations in adopting Alfie.Love the picture of his designer splint. Our dog Jack who we lost in August 2009,had a bleeding tail when we had him from a rescue ,we used a spray from the vets and it eventually stopped bleeding ,he was left with a kink in his tail. Look forward to your updates and pictures.

Re: Devon (now Alfie)
Lovely update on Alfie - I like his new name!
When we adopted Barney he injured his tail (well actually it was my fault I was brushing him and caught the end of his tail and it bled - don't tell!). Well it wouldn't stop bleeding and the vet said he may have to have an amputation - ARGH!! We bought some stretch fabric strapping and wrapped that around the bandage - anything else and he just wagged it off - it protected his tail when he wacked it against walls etc - and it healed really good. I am sure that Alfie's tail will heal - love the toilet roll!!

Re: Devon (now Alfie)
I know you will not want Alfie to lose his tale but Maisie says not to worry as it does not make you wag it any less!!!!
Maisie adpoted Oct 2007 from MKF came with only half a tail
she is lovingly called " Stumpy".
There is an advantage to having a shorter tail at least she does not clear the low tables of glasses
