It really made me sad to hear that Jess sat by the door waiting for her old owner to come for her. I am sure she will soon settle and realise that she has a lovely new home. Fudge was six when he came to us (five years ago this week) and he was quite sad and stressed by the experience. He was gentle and well mannered from the start and is the perfect dog for us. I think it took about six months for him to fully relax and be the confident dog he is now. It must be difficult for an older dog in a new home to understand the new rules and routine. I am sure you will give her all the love and understanding she needs.

Simon, I am so pleased you have taken Jess into your home and hearts, she looks so lovely. Over the next few weeks you will gradually see all sorts of changes in her.

That is a lovely post, I loved the bit about her being big boned very good. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures and for keeping us posted on how she has settled in. I look forward to hearing more about her progress.

I think we should see some photos of Mr Gorgeous, especially the one of him as a four year old playing with a box mentioned in one of his earlier posts!

I am having a seriously bad hair day today - but will find something suitable to share - then you will see that maybe Jess sees all men as gorgeous!

It hard when anyone takes on a dog. we are often confused with henny... sometimes she does things that obviously means something to her which we don't understand. we found out a few week ago that "go on then" means yes you can have the sofa now what a surprise when she happily stepped onto the corner cushion and curled up. we meant "go on then you can go out" BUT a waggie tail is a universal language . we always know what that means....

It is very different taking on a more mature dog. As we know all dogs (and humans) have their little ways. The first thing I noticed with Jess is that before she does a pee, she puts her nose to the ground and turns round about three times then does the do! Having always had young dogs from the beginning - it is totally different but in no way less rewarding!
